Just a quick question.

I'm in the process of acclimatizing some red wag platies to a well cycled tank. After this, should I give them a bit of food, or should I hold off until tomorrow?

Fish can do well without food for several days. Most of my fish start eating right after being intoduced to the tank. Try feeding a little and be prepared to remove the food if it's not eaten. Try until they start eating.

It's up to you. I normally don't feed newcomers until the day after they are introduced to the tank. Often fish won't bother eating while they are exploring the new surroundings and getting adjusted, but giving them a pinch or two wouldn't hurt.

I'm the opposite. I usually feed within an hour of introducing new fish. I've found that throwing food in the tank takes everyone's minds off the newcomers and they are too busy looking for munchies to mind them.

The newcomers usually just jump right in and frenzy with the rest.

Course, these are platies, kuhlies, clowns, cories, and rainbows for the most part, so your mileage may vary.

i keep mostly cichlids but from my experience if i introduce the fish after i have already fed for the day they wait if i havent fed yet then they get to feast with the rest of the tank and so far everything has jumped right in and ate right along with everyone else. i do have one community tank with a 4" moonlight gourami, 2 1" tiger barbs, 1 lil cory cat, 1 lil tinfoil barb, and yes i know when he gets bigger he's gettin moved a 2" common oscar but he fits in so well and i am just growin him out for the 125 gallon.

Thanks for your help guys! I fed them a little food after I got them acclimatized to the tank, and a couple of them fed right away. The others were still a bit shy.

Today, I fed them another small pinch of TetraMin, and you'd swear they were little red sharks! It was a frenzy where the food went in. They're a lot of fun to watch and they'll be a great feature for this office tank.

Thanks again!

I usually wait 2 hours and then throw some food in so that the fish feel more at home. Fat fish are usually happy fish. After that, I go back to my normal feeding routine.
