Depends if you're willing to meet a few of their basic requirements...warm water (mid 80's), frequent water changes (50% 1-2x a week at minimal) and a tank with good filtration. Those are the basics, with the emphasis on the frequent water changes....the more the better!! Discus arent that hard if you just follow the basics...nor are they as fragile as most people would say they are. In fact, discus are pretty **** hardy...they can take a lot before they keel over dead. The foods they require need a bit higher protein and fat content then most fish. As far as tankmates goes....tetras, cory's, plecos, rams, tiger barbs and a few other's.
No idea on that one....you can certainly try it, but be sure to get a discus from a local breeder or dealer, not a LFS...so you can get atleast a healthy discus that wont hide in your tank.
