If it's the common M. electricus, the AC species profiles say 180 gallons minimum. (Their mins are usually pretty consistent with everyone else's, but most people on the board keep larger tanks than those.) Good luck, and don't get shocked!
I had one about 10 years ago. I got him at about 6 inches and he grew like a weed. I kept him in a 110 g by himself. I really liked having him. He just go to big and was taking up alot of tank space by himself. I ended up trading him for a snake head. Just don't put anything in with him. I had him with an albino channel cat for awhile and the poor thing was shocked a few times.

You might want to ask this question on a different thread--snakeheads have nothing to do with e-cats.

We talked about snakeheads there.

ok thanks
my electric catfishes tank started smelling like stagnant ocean water.... very salty and rotten. He's still alive and thriving... he just bit a platty in half. Any ideas on what it could be? I've had one aquaclear mini on it, but I put on another, and I did a water change. Hopefully that will take care of it. Anyone had this problem before? Also, what do you suggest I feed the electric cat?
thanks,
georgio

how big do these get???
Electric Cats get 39 inches, according to the Aquaria Central caresheet. He's only 2 or 3 inches right now, in a 10 gallon, with slightly alkaline water and 2 Aquaclear mini filters.
