I also have the sand that has the bactireare in it. I feed the fish frozen food also. the tank is a 30 gallon ( DECENT) well i am a jsut starting the hobby. I also have the 30 wisper filter ( IS THAT NE GOOD) well everything is up and running! please help me and tell me what to do

I hate to say it, but you jumped the gun...

The biggest thing about having an aquarium setup for fish is their water quality, espeacially marine (salt water) tanks.

Fish tanks need to go through a sometimes lengthy period of cycle. If you add fish before the tank goes through the cycle you could end up with stressed out and eventually dead fish.

There is alot of info on this site and I suggest checking out the sticky forums that are in the marine topics sections, focus on the marine newbie forums.

It's good that you asked the question, and hopefully you will get your tank suitable to sustain the life of the fish and they won't get hurt...

Good luck with it, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding when you do it the right way...

Hopefully more people will add to the posts and help you out,
But for now, do some reading, it should answer alot of your questions.

I'm off to class, best of luck

hey there,
I would have to agree with LordsSoilder, and you have to allow the aquarium to go through the ammonia cycle. I would recommend you to bring the yellow tang to the fish store and ask them to keep it for you a few weeks and get a few damsel fish meanwhile so they will break the cycle. Otherwise, your yellow tang will most likely not make it. I would also recommend you to ask yout fish store for some of their gravel and stick it into your tank. The reason is because the gravel contains the benfitial bacteria and it will speed up the cycle process.
Good luck!

You don't need the damsels to cycle the tank - that's cruel to the damsels. Cycle it without fish (seed with either pure household ammonia or with a dead shrimp), it's more humane.

You need to take the tang back. Besides your tank not being cycled yet, your tank isn't big enough to house a tang. You would need at least a 55g for a tang. I wouldn't put a yellow tang in anything smaller than a 75g but that is my personal preference.
You don't need any fish to cycle your tank. Even though damnsels are cheap, it is still inhumane to subject them to ammonia burns. You can do a fishless cycle without hurting any animals.
I cycled my 55 with only live rock and southdown playsand. It took only 18 days to cycle. In the saltwater hobby, you need patience. Nothing good happens fast.
Please read before you do anything else and be sure to ask questions before you add anything else to your tank. Remember the only stupid questions are the questions that aren't asked.
We are here to help you. There will be many yrs to enjoy your tank. I would like to help you get started right.

Hit the deck here come the tang police!!! :look:

What is the problem with people, the simple answer is the tank is 30 gallons, the fish gets 15 cm, and will eventually die of stress, i think if you are going to post anything make it a valid post and stop posting crap and get on to helping people.
