hey everyone, i had the smoking thread not to long ago. I'm guessing from various opions and thougts that smoking wasn't my problem.
i'm leaning toward lack of O2. i currently have a 90 gallon tank with a mag 7 (at 4' it is 480) on the return. i didn't have any powerheads in the tank because it's a FOWLR for now.

any thoughts? upgrade return pump to 9.5? place a powerhead in the tank (at what location)?

thanks
Pete

I think the addition of a powerhead would help. O2 exchange happens at the surface. The more movement, the more exchange. I think the addition of this would help and would be an inexpensive fix.

I'd say a powerhead or two would be a good idea. Maybe one in each corner, aiming front and center. Even a FOWLR would benefit from getting the circulation to about 1000 gph.

ok, i'm getting a dolphin DP-1200 from a friend so that should help with the tank turnover. also, my overflow is in my back left corner, any particular preference to where a powerhead could go in that area- back or side? i will definately be putting one on the right side! any suggestions on which brand.

start putting together a plan...

thanks
Pete

If you have a sump, and water falls into that then goes through some sort of filter and is returned, there shouldn't be a problem with oxygen in the water. The water falling into the sump should be all you need, I'm pretty sure a protien skimmer will increase your oxygen levels if your worried, but I don't know if thats what happened to your tank. I would avoid water just sitting there, so if it were me, I'd buy powerheads regardless for the fish's sake.

hey Waste,
I was at the time running a Proclear Aquatics wet/dry rated for 150. if you ask me i wouldn't put it on a 75. Very small compared to my Americle i have now (i'm looking into a fuge setup now too). i think i overstocked the tank for what was happening with O2 in the tank. stupidly put in 3-4 fish at a time (i did acclimate) then wait 2 weeks and put another in. this happened 2 times by the way. unless it was something internal... don't know. even though i took it slow the other 2 times. i'm going much slower this time!
i still have 2 blue fin damsels and a purple tang left that look very healthy so i'm going to setup a QT first then do the display tank with everything i want.

thanks
Pete
