I'm very close to buying a tank from glasscages.com, but am worried about some of the horror stories that I've read. They have the best price, even with shipping, so I'm very tempted. Some people have had great experiences with them, but I've read things about the owner being extremely rude and weird and one person reported that glasscages charged his debit card by $300 over the agreed-on price.

Has anyone here, reef or freshwater, bought anything from glasscages lately? There are some older threads, but I'd like to hear any recent experiences. Is the risk worth the great price?

Thanks so much.

i was doing research too, here's what i gathered.

1) No customer service, dont rely on them for any kind of cs.
2) for the acrylic tank they are ok. Only downside is they use those ugly black frames (but some people like it shrug).
3) for glass tank, the bottom frame is not pixel/tinted glass (stronger). And you need to pay extra to use the better side viewing glass - clearer and less green (necessary for 100+g tanks with 1inch or thicker glass).

if i am going for a cheap <75g setup, i would definitly just buy a tank here for <$100 and slap on a few power filters. But if you spending a lot of money on a marine setup with all the fancy canister filters etc, definitly pay the difference for a all-glass(minimum) or seaclear acrylic tank. If nothing else, peace of mind.

My purchases were all a couple of years ago, but I have every intention of buying from them again when I need more tanks. I will be interested to see as well, as I have heard nothing negative about them, but haven't researched things recently.

Thanks for posting about that site I finally found a place where I can get some new edging for my tank :)

free shipping or it might be 10 bucks now; thats if you pick it up from the trade shows they attend, usually central or east side of the country, but last time they came pretty close to me on the west coast.

ive know people that purchased from them. and someone on a different forum knew the guy, basically hes really busy and the people that buys from him knows what they are getting and they know its cheap. he seems to be more impatient and gets tired of answering all the same "newbie" questions all the time. he just wants to sell the tanks cause if he senses someone asking lots of questions and expecting more. they will just get dissapointed on their purchases and then badmouth him online.

I think I am gonna buy my next tank there, can't be worse than any of the used ones I have bought.

how much is shipping?? these are like the cheapest tanks ive ever seen

This will put a serious perspective on shipping costs for glass tanks. I checked into having my 115g shipped to columbus, and basically by the time I bought it and shipped it here it was almost exactly the same price as a 110g at the LFS. The key with Glass cages is as mentioned. They will bring your tank to a show for free. so if you have some patience you can get a great deal on a great tank.
They will also build you almost anything you want for a reasonable price. I waited until I was working down south and then drove to their Nashville facility and picked up my 115 and my 67g tank. HAving some experience in tank building and repair, I really like their construction methods and basic designs. The larger tanks are well reinforced, and well sealed. and the glass is of a better than standard thickness in most sizes. I had no issue whatsoever with their customer service or attitude, they were a bit short with me on the phone, but not rude by any stretch. When I got to the "barn" where they build their tanks, the owner took the time to give me a tour and let me look around at all of their different tanks and designs. He helped me with packing material to put around and under the tanks, and then helped me wrap the tanks in Saran wrap for the trip. All free of charge despite my offer to pay him a little for materials.
