Hi I was wondering if there was anything small like a snail or anything for brackish water that will dig through the sand so I don't have to do it myself. my wife is starting a 10gal brackish that will be pretty close to fully stocked with a sand substrate. So, if there is anything it will have to contribute to the bio load very little.

I currently have a gravel U/G substrate but will be going to sand bottom when I upgrade to the 180 gal. I plan on using pool filter sand. Very well graded and available at 0.5-1.0 mm size. More of a fine rounded gravel.

I plan on putting malaysian trumpets in. They are burrowers and do a fair job, though how deep I don't know. Il'll problably go with a 2-3 inch layer.

MTS are a no no for puffers, though, I am told. They appear as tasty as any snail would, but the shells are to hard and can chip your puffer's teeth.

My motto for a happy, easy-on-the-lazy kind of tank has always been to overfiltrate and underpopulate. 10 gal isn't a lot of water, so take it easy on the number of fish you put in there. There ar lots of threads on here on some great choices for a small tank.

Check out the FAQ posted by kabong in the link at the top of the forums page. Scroll down to where Neale (the author) has posted to the updated version, here http://homepage.mac.com/nmonks/aquaria/brackfaqpart4.html.

You've got a lot of posts, but seem to be new to brackish. Disregard if preaching to choir. . .

Yeah, I'm know my freshwater ok, but will never stop learning, but I have never attempted brackish or salt. My wife really loves the bumble bee gobys, she thinks they are "soooo cute". So we set up my dads empty 10 gal for her. Right know she is planning on 1 female krib and a few bumble bees. Actually, the sand is quite shallow, probably not even an inch, kinda hard to plant in, so maybe I won't have too much of a problem with gas buildup. Thanks for the link, that was helpfull for the salt level part of it.
Hey, even the quire doesn't know all there is to know about God. I'll never know all there is to know about aquariums and will always be learning, so preach away.
