Hi, this is the first time posting in the plant forum. I have a problem with high nitrates. My ammonia, and nitrite levels are at zero. However my nitrates are at (the best I can tell by the color) around 80 ppm. I haven't tested yet for ph though. If this is a nacessity just let me know and I can get it for you.

What I want to know now, is what kind of plants are nubbie friendly, and will also help in getting my nitrates down to a more health level for my fish.

I have a 30 gallon tank, with a 10" pleco who (probably due to being too big for the tank) likes to disslodge my fake plants. Is there a way to keep my live plants from getting uprooted by the pleco?

I appreciate any suggestions you can give me. And just to let you know I'll be getting a much larger tank this summer to house the poor pleco.

What are your light levels? Is it standard lighting over your 30 gal? If it is then Hornwort may be a good option for you. This is a floating plant.

Hornwort floating at the top is a good suggestion. It's very easy. Also java moss. You could tie to wood or rocks and it will attach itself. That way the pleco won't be able to knock it loose.

I agree with Captain Hook and Aquabum.

Definitely go with floating plants or plants fixed to driftwood or rocks. A pleco of that size will only uproot anything planted in the substrate.

I have a standard flourescent hood for my light. I like the flooting plant idea. does hornwort send any roots down that dangle in the water column?

Thank you for your help.

Nitrates at 80ppm!#@? Have you considered water changes, asap?
