Long time reader, first time poster. just got my first tank and have been doing something a little bit different... after researching for a long long time, i decided on my current setup... 90 gallon tall with 2-175wat 15000K.. for the real clams.. not cleaner clams, 1" sand bed, 120lbs of live rock plus whats in the 20 gallon sump next to the bio balls and the berlin turbo skimmer. hang on refugium with DSB and blade calapera, not grape. any ways i knew i was gonna buy clams eventually.. so after two months of cycle and one yellowtail damsel i had 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and about 20-40 nitrates. doc wellfish its hard to differentiate. i put a 1" golden teardrop maxima, nitrates about a week afterwards were in the same as the week before.... the very next week i purchased a 3" tiger-striped derasa... nitrates after 3 days.... 15. i then purchased another clam a 5" beautiful crocea... nitrates after a day had dropped to about a 5 by this time i had purchaed a hi/low salifert test kit. needless to say my skimmer isnt producing nearly as much foam. i bought one more clam too a squamosa.. awesome lookin suckers too we should throw a little more stock into clams... one day i might open up my own clam farm... all the clam u'll ever need.
