Hi my wife and I are going to setup a 30 gal tank with some corals, and I have done a ton of research but the lighting issue is sooo confusing!! Would I be correct in assuming a 24 inch lighting system would be sufficient for this? I have gathered Pc's are the way to go and have been searching on ebay but the brand names have me all confused. Would coralife setups be good, how about a jebo with 12,000k 2 65 watt bulbs?? Are these brands decent? I am not looking to spend a fortune. Please someone steer me in the right direction. I am not new to the fish world and I have had a triggerfish tank...but this coral/reef lighting is a whole new confusing ballgame too me!!!!

PCs are nice, but MHs are the way to go if you dont want to be restricted.
coralife is a very good brand. that and orbit makes some realy realy nice stuff. jebo is considered cheap, but i personaly have owned the odyssea (what jebo became) PCs which werent bad, and then i got the odyssea metal-halides and they are a much much better quality than the PCs are. if you buy jebo, dont buy off of ebay. i got my pcs for 120 there, you can get the same ones from www.aquatraders.com for about 50. i got my MH system for 180. if you have the money and dont want to be restricted in what you keep, for with MH. a 24" system will be nice, of course assuming your tank is 24 inches. but you will only be able to keep softies and SOME LPS. they will survive, but thrive in MH lighting.

I have used coralife fixtures, and they are fine. Depending on the corals you want to keep, one of their 130 watt fixture will be OK. You might also consider T5s, either TEK or Sunlight Supply, which provide more punch per watt.

Current makes an o.k. T-5 you can pick one up for about $200. It does not have individual reflectors, but it puts out a decent amount of light for the buck and it is HO.
