I started a new tank several weeks ago, haven't had any casualties except a platy that I have decided didn't make it through giving birth. It's a live planted tank, and I have two big hornworts and two smaller bunches of Java fern.
I guess on one of those plants, I got some snail hitchhikers. There's at least one that's pencil-eraser sized, and looking closely at the hornwort, there are a bunch of others, pinhead size or so.
Are these things serving a beneficial purpose or are they harmful in any way? My handy dandy reference book (Aquariums for Dummies- :read: ) doesn't say much about them.
