I have ran a freshwater tank for a ong time but i realy wanted to switch over to salt so i decided to give it a shot. I have bought a few things already like my sediment. i put down 40 pounds of florida crushed coral than layed 30 pounds of crushed argonite reef sand on top of it. I have 75 gallons worth of salt and a sea clone 150 protien skimmer. Ihave to get the power head for the skimmer and i went to get the recamended maxi-jet 1200 last night but they didn't have it but the guy told me that the aquaclear would work just the same. Im not sure if it is going to work or not i haven't got a chance to look at it. I need some advice on what to do from here, on filtration, live rock, cycling, anything. Any good advice would be apriciated.

Did you set up the substrate already?

What size tank?

If the Seaclone is still in it's package, take it back. Get a Coralife Super Skimmer instead.

Get a R/O filter, this will cut down on lots of problems in the future.

Pumps/powerheads forget Rio's.

Filtration: Live rock, sand and skimmer are fine. You can cycle the tank with the die off on the rock.

You're going to need at least 2 powerheads. Those are fine, get another.

If, you're not having corals, normal flourescent lighting is fine. Don't need a UV sterilizer.

A couple of buckets to mix saltwater in. You will also need a powerhead and heater for each. You need to mix the saltwater for at least 24hrs. ahead of time.

I can't think of anything else right now. If I forgot something, I'm someone will chime in.
