My mother bought this fish - labeled as 'Lem Fasciatus' on her recipt - at the local PetsMart, a respectable pet store. (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6545) I know the beggining was more than Lep - it was lepsomethingorother. I did a search in the AC species profiles, and didn't get any hits. It had no common name listed. It likes frozen food and flakes, and is about 3 inches long with an even yellow and black-striped body. Apparently likes hiding and eating off the bottom.

Any ideas?

Yeah, that's it.

I don't speak German though - I can't use the first one...

What country are you from anyway?

Dott's Norvegian, Rocketman. Says that the fish will become aggressive, especially in a small tank. Says that it hails from Northern and Central parts of South America. Tells you to feed it greens, like lettuce or boiled spinach. Says keep it covered with a glass, for it's a jumper. And gives its grown size-- 25 to 30 cm.

It will still munch on any plants you have, btw.

You can judge the respectability of a petstore by the percentage of fishes that will grow to become a burden (unless you have a 200-gallon tank): pacu, leporinus, pangasius cats, redtail catfish, silverdollars, Chinese algae-eaters, etc etc..

Yeah, sure. Does this mean themore burdeness fish the more respectable? Or are you implying that they are suckering in the people with cure fast growing fishes that will be burdens? Or do neither of us know what we are talking about?

Well, I can't judge whether it's a conscious policy, but sometimes I just get this certain impression as I walk past tank after tank of future badboys and giants...

i wanted one of these leporinus until i found out about their temperment and then saw just how big they get. they do get quite big and unfortunately lose alot of their color. i just used those links because they were the first ones i came across. sorry about the language deal.

I've seen big fish of this species with very good color often. The one mentioned with a loss of some color may have been scared or some other problem.
