Just mixed up new batch of water to do a water change. The calcium level is 380. The dkh is at 160. It is my understanding that i need to lower the dkh before trying to raise the calcium. Why is the dkh so high and how do i get it under control? The water is ro. The mix is Instant Ocean

Sounds silly, but if you use a freshwater test kit on saltwater you'll get an amazingly high reading.

Thanks Reefrash, I checked that already. The test kit i have has both, The KH reagent is what i used. Any other ideas?

Just RO water? Do you have a DI filter there too? That might be part of the problem. I would check the readings in the RO water to make sure the membrane isn't malfunctioning.

What salt mix are you using? None that I know of will have the alkalinity that high.
Forget I said that. That hardness translates to about 3.1 mEq/L alkalinity. That's perfectly fine. You can boost the calcium by adding calcium chloride (like the Ca component of a two-part) or dripping kalkwasser.

What are the levels in the tank?

its cause your using IO. known for having low Ca. if you want to get that in line, then switch salt brands.
