I am trying to keep some banana plants down on my aquarium floor, they seem to float some. I was wondering where I could get some plant weights or something else that would work better. Any ideas would be great, thanks.

Any petstore that sells things pertaining to live aquatic plants would have them. Petco, petsmart, petquarters, and local places. They're very cheap.

A lot of those metal plant weights contain lead. Lee's Lead Plant Weights are no longer being manufactured because of this.

IMO if it bends easily and is a soft metal, don't use it.

It is my understanding that the plant weights out for sale do not contain lead any longer.

the LFS just gave me a dozen weights for free. I asked about lead and the guy said he didnt think there was any and that they had never had a problem. it never hurts to ask! :)

That's right, the newer plant weights are made of some sort of composite metal and contain no lead. It's the same stuff used for the newer fishing sinkers I believe, although I can't think of the name at the moment.

Sweet, I will look around at my LFS. I know Petsmart and Petco dont have them. But I know of a few other I could try.

Thanks for the help.

I use them all the time and have for years.
I wrap them around 5 or 6 strands of Pennywort and set them down behind some of the lower plants and they look natural and great. I find it very easy to work with Pennywort especially, but many stem plants and others can be worked using this method.

Is there a problem with the Lee's plant weights? I'm using 2-3 and I have about 10 laying around not used for anything. Everything I've read says there isn't enough lead to do any damage, and the metal isn't going to decompose.
