they caught on Survivor last night. My girlfriend was watching it........which means that I have to watch it too. It looked kind of like a Green Terror or Jack, but I don't think it was either. Anyone else happen to catch it?

I saw it but they caught more than one fish last night......was it all the same kind? Not sure what it was, I'm a cichlid newbie (besides angels and discus).

It would not have been a Jack, as they live in Central America. I saw it, and still have it on tape, but I am leaning toward a Festivum right now. I'll watch again and get back to you.

From the quick look that I got one looked like a peacock bass (some sort of bass) and the other looked like a severum.
Did anyone see the nice large severums they showed under water?
Very nice.

I was thinking possibly Sevs, but I (as you can see in early posts) have no experience with them and ruled them out prematurely...dang, though, I wish they would just catch something that I don't want in my aquaria...those underwater shots are great...I think that I would watch season 6 just for them!!!

Yes I saw the Severum in the underwater shot they had. I told my wife the name of the fish that just swam by the camera and she said " sure honey whatever you say" HAHAHA
Also 1 of the fish they caught was a peacock bass for sure

The fish that I saw them catch was caught by the women. It looked about 10 inches or so. All I saw was that it had three dots on it. I also saw where they had a run in with Parhana in the next episode. I'm not a big fan of Pirahana, but I might have to watch again next week just to check it out. Whatever it is, I sure wouldn't want to eat the darn things!

Dang, dude, if were an eat or be eaten challenge, I'd belly up to the Piranha bar!!! I do want to see that, but I wonder how wise it is to take Piranhas out of water and then leave them by your feet...

I once saw a show on Discovery that showed how the tribes of the Amazon used Pirhana teeth as tools.
I wonder if the girls will figure it out. So far they seem to be quite bright and are doing the right things.

I think the women will definately figure it out first. Men might have the muscle, but they are lacking in the brains department. Pretty interesting that pirahna teeth could be used as tools too.

the way I took it was they were gonna have to do some kind of challenge that involved the piranha....thought I heard one of the girls, say oh....there's another piranha....made me think they were actually going for them......they left a good cliff-hanger this week I guess with that....
Sorry, this is off-topic, but what area of geology are you studying, Ordovician?
I'm going for a B.S. right now in general geology but would like to go into seismology or volcanology.

My thesis is a petrographic/diagenetic/geochmeical study of a hydrothermal dolostone body in central kentucky. The outcrops are upper Ordovician and are analogous to the Trenton group of NY. In western NY they are getting a whole lot of gas out of these dolostone bodies, and nobody has really ever worked with them.
