I'm hooked!! So I just put 1/2 down on a 80G curved glass tank ( the edges are rounded off and all one piece of glass and it bows in the front too). It's a really beautiful tank and I can't wait to get it. It comes with a wood stand, and lights and 2 filters built into the hood( should I still buy another filter too??) I should have it paid off and home by early next month if all goes right. This is kinda a big investment for us since my wife and I both work for non-profits and we don't make a ton of money. I'm thinking when all is said and done we will be dropping over a grand on this thing, but we have got the fish bug and it developed into MTS so now we are hooked!

I just wanted to thank everyone here for the great advice and all the help. I wouldn't be where I'm at without all the help from AC!! This 20g is my first tank and I didn't want to be that guy, like Roan Art said, that has his current tank over-stocked as says he'll get a new tank soon to house the fish as they get bigger but never does! So we bucked up for our fish and made the dive to an 80g, we love our clown loaches and I hope that they will be good in the 80g for atleast a few years!

So I'm going to need everyone's help and advice on this new tank as I begin to set it up over the next few months, hope that's ok!!

So far I was thinking for the 80g: Kinda Amazon but with Clown Loaches. Open for suggestions too!!!
3 clown loaches (moved from my 20g tank) should I get some more??
2 koi vailed Angels (moved from 20g) would like to get more Angels too/ how many??
15-20 cardinal tetras
10-15 diamond tetras
1- fancy pleco ( not sure what kind yet)
I also want the tank to be well planted so I'm thinking Flourite bottom with some bigger darker gravel on top for the loaches.
Anymore fish ideas would be great!! Thanks!!!

Also this leaves my 20gt with only 3 zebra danios, one rubber lipped pleco and one bristlenose pleco. I was thinking of keeping this as my QT tank and getting a few more small schooling fish in the tank too(maybe diamond tetras). I want to have some fish in there because the tank is in my living room. Would this be OK, or should I not have anyone in a QT tank???

Thanks again for everyone's help!!!

Is this the tank you are talking about? http://www.riverwonders.com/catalog/i67.html
If it is I have a few questions/thoughts.

First your plant choice would be pretty limited. With the three 40 watt bulbs you only have 1.5 watts per gallon. Most 48" bulbs are 36 watts (they vary from 32-40watts) which will drop the WPG even more. If you ever decided to add more lights you would probably have a hard time retrofitting something in there. And if you decide to just replace the hood you'll lose your filter.

How does the filter work? A powerhead pushing water over a sponge/ bio balls or is the water forced through the media? What is the turn over rate in the tank? Does the hood have cut outs for extra filters?

Sorry for all the questions. these are just a few of the things I would want to know before spending almost a grand for a new tank. If your not going to get this tank for a month or so, You have time to check the local classified ads. On an almost daily basis I see 100+ gallon complete tank setups for around $500. Here is an ad from today.

AQUARIUMS: 45 gallon, 56 gallon or 62 hexagon, all w/stands $125 each or $280/all

Something you can look into.

Just looked on craigslist and found these in Houston.

No, that's not it. I can't find a pic of it, it's at my lfs. And actually for the 80G tank, hood, lights ( which are two 65w and two that aren't grow lights) and two filters that are built into the hood (not sure what the turnover is and if they are that good, that's why I might buy another type of filter) but it's all for $350!! I think that's a great deal!!
I was saying I think I'll be dropping a grand with stocking, plants and EVERYTHING else when all is said and done. Just a rough guess!

Take a look at my sig. That may or may not give you some ideas.Let me tell you that 80 gal won't be your last tank, especially if you got the bug

Best of luck to you.....

About getting other filters, I would wait & see how the tank does with what it comes with and go from there. A word of caution, maybe no one else has had this happen, BUT, I had 3 angels in a fify gallon, from the time they were quarter sized, grew up with tetras, loaches, and rainbow fish. No problems until one day they decided to pair up. I fed that morning and found my clown loach (4") dead, was really upset, but was in a hurry so removed him & left. By the time I got home from work, I had lost 2 cories, a 4" rainbowfish and was in the process of losing another. Needless to say, I removed the angelfish and took them the the next club auction. If I hadn't caught the angelfish attacking the second rainbowfish, I wouldn't have realized what was happening. I love the koi angelfish, but wouldn't put them in with anything not fast enough to escape them.

Lol...I have two koi angels in a 29 with a pair of blue rams, prestella tetras and a kuhlii loach. They're only about silver dollar size now.....I'm just hoping they DON"T pair up and off my other stock...lol...I do love the look of them, it would be a shame if I had to get rid of them..... :(

BUUUTTT...lol...I knew the possibilities when I bought them, so can't complain.....

Thanks, but I think I'm going to stay with more non-aggressive fish and I'm moving over my angels and I don't want them to become dinner. :D

Wow, I haven't heard of anything like that!! My Angels are German raised and really pretty friendly, but who knows?? They are only about 1/2 dollar sized now too, but I'll keep watching them. They seem to get along really well right now with the loaches!

So what are people's thoughts on these fish and the numbers of them?? Does this sound good?? I tried to think of tetras that aren't too nippy for the Angel's sake. And I was also maybe thinking of picking up some German Blue Rams, people here on AC have me hooked on these!! Will these work together??
Please let me know what you guys think!! :hang:
