okay my mom bought some lobsters from walmart and brought them home for my and my bf to eat. But he refuses to eat them and instead wants to make a sw tank just for them. We just got them last night and their fine in the bucket of water they came in for now but what do i need too keep them alive in a sw tank?

You need a big tank, a good biological filtration system and a chiller. It will be very expensive, are you sure you want to do this?

Dave's right. Keeping a lobster that's big enough to sell commercially will cost big bucks.

The tank will have to be quite a bit bigger than the ones you see at the store since those holding tanks and their filtration systems are only designed to keep lobsters alive for a short period of time until they're sold.

The cheapest chiller will cost you at least a few hundred bucks and you'll have to run it constantly if it's an Atlantic lobster from colder waters.

Good luck if you try (just don't give him a hot bath like Homer Simpson did).

the 1st thing you should do is remove them from the water if they are still in it 2ndquickly figure out what your going to do either keep them, spend alot of money, or return them. if this is an atlantic lobster they will live upside down on ice for a week they kind of go into a hibernation this way they will quickly spoil any water there in and die within hours unless propally filterd...if you keep them as pets they will eat each other, unleess they live a life with bands on,not a great way to live. in my opinion let them go here is an animal you can throw back if your in newengland. if not bring them back to walmart and yes they will probably be consumed, id feel bad for a live chicken before i ate itbut still ppl have to eat i beleave there are many animals out there for human consumption including many kinds of fish....good luck, got to go i think im burning my steak..

I've wanted to keep a lobster since I was little and never eat them, they're my favourite animal :)

If you're willing to get them a big tank and a chiller, you could end up with some really neat pets, but Dave's right - the system will probably cost quite a bit to set up. I think if you had lots of rock with caves you could probably keep two in a large tank, I think they would each need their own territory in order to have any hope of keeping them from fighting.

your all right i think it might be best to take them back to the store right away but it would of been neat.thanks

 WHODATHUNKIT????????? That would be awesome tho!!!!
