Hi,

I have a 70 gallon tank that I've just recently setup again. It's been cycling and no fish have been added however I have an outbreak of small brown snails. I've heard that certain loaches may eat them such as the clown loach. Does anyone have a safe remedy for getting rid of these eye sores? Thanks in advance for any help.

I will be stocking the tank with all male African Cichids from Malawi.

clown loaches will tear through them in no time. they'll be nothing but a memory in a matter of weeks.

I agree all you have to do is put some malawi africans in there. My boyfriend's tank got snails in it and we put some saulosi fry in there and haven't seen a snail since. They seem to suck the snail right out of the shell because the shells are always layin on the substrate.. empty  I wouldnt buy a loach to put in there just to clean out the snails, when your africans will do it for ya!

Also, snails are a good sign your tank is doing well, they would not survive a ammonia/nitrite spike :)

also you could just weigh down a chunk of lettuce or zuchinni, let the snails start eating it, then remove the food source. repeat until snails are gone. good luck!
