I bought a fish on impulse yesterday (I know, but i couldnt help it) and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I cant find any information in any of my books or on the net.

its about 1.5" long, but I suspect its a juvenile, with a typical goby shaped body, and a blue green irredesence when the light hits it in a certain way.

Anybody got one or know about them?

just guessing.
could it be in the gudgeon family?

peacock or purple stripe perhaps.

looking on the net, I see pictures of adults so i'm not sure what a juvenile would look like.

I agree it sounds like a gudgeon to me as well. does it swim freely or stay near the bottom? Goby Frontiers (http://uri.sakura.ne.jp/~dd/goby.htm) has several pages of images. maybe you can find your specific species.

Its a bottom dweller. It also has the ability to 'stick' to the glass or to plant leaves. Its not a peacock - although the body shape is very similar. The coloration is similar to other 'rainbow' fish...

Oh, and the shop owner said he had never come across them before...
