Hi all, I woke up this morning and my father had bought me a used tank from a market. Its quite dirty (dry algea ect) and Im not sure wether I need to clean it using a sterilant.
Any advice would be nice!

Use a rag and viniger, works very well. If you have something called Oxyclean, you can use that also.

Though aquariums benefit from all kinds of bacteria, you could pretty well sterilize this with a 1;1 Clorox solution. When sodium hypochlorite dries, all it leaves is a little sodium chloride.
Whatever you do, don't use any soap or detergent in an aquarium. OxyClean was a good suggestion: no soap, all percarbonate.

When I get a scumy tank.I sit it on the floor fill it with like 140deg water 1/2 cup bleach per 50G cover tight with plastic (shrink wrap)let sit over night most the time the crud falls off if not its all loose +you get to see if its water tight. Also I find that I reseal 1/2 the tanks I find even if they dont leak.
