My son spilled a Sprite and now I have ants. Will fish eat them?
If so I have enough live food for a year:mad: .

judging from your location..I'm assuming those are fire-ants.I wouldn't feed thenm to a fish, because they may bite it. You can try if you like, but don't come crying to me if your fish has a huge red lump on the inside of his mouth.

Depending on the fish, yes. I would reserve the ants for hungry surface-feeders.

My friend does that. When a big fly or an ant is in his house, he puts them in the tank and the fish he says go crazy.

Tell us your fishes' reaction to an ant. Do they try em and spit em out?
I'd think the formic acid might make some ants unpalatable.
Flies? That's a different story!

sorry, im steppin bk in time on this thread, but yes fish will eat ants. like you say, they may not go for them at first...because they are, so to speak, a 'foreign food'. squash acouple before you put them in, and that should get those sences goin...
and if anyone dares mentions the fact that surely i think the ants feel pain.....lol

I never thought of ants but I did dry out some worms and grind them up for fry. The fry grew faster than when feed ground up flake food but not quite as fast as fry on microworms. Might be a good fry food. If I ever get infested in ants I will try it (hope I dont though).

My oscar will eat only eat bugs that are in the tank.

My Buenos Aires Tetras love ants. Well, they love anything. I gave them a mealworm this week as an experiment, and they liked that too.

well bring'em over here........my rainbows would love them! I left my window open a few times in the summer and would just watch the bugs investigate, fall in the water and get devoured.

my puffer eats ants and any other bug that goes in there. the most fun is watching him hunt down little water beetles.

hmn... what about Spiders?
I would hate for a brown recluse or black widow to fall into any of my tanks... my poor betta would probably be killed...
hehehe.. but then again a big ole Cichled may just have a nice snack...

its interesting that you mention mice. My brother went to Mexico a few months ago, and they had the most interesting little moat around the city. When he got closer to the moat he recognized the fish from me. He inquired about it and the locals told him they put cats around the town to kill any rats or mice that might try to enter through the bridge and oscars in the moat to kill any that are brave enough to swim for it.
