Hey peoples,

I dont think i have been on this forumn since late summer early fall due to no ISP. Anyways i am looking at upgrading the lighting fixtures on my 87g and was thinking either metal halides or power compacts. Now i no around here they are a bit harder to find and quite a bit more expensive. I was wondering if anybody knows a website in canada where i could order some of these. Also for those of you that live around calgary, i am going there for a visit next week and was wondering if anyone knows any places there. Any info appriciated, tanks guys!

You should do what I did, just go to home depot and get 2 ballasts there that hold 2 bulbs each. Very cheap and effective.

Hey FishHunter8;
There is a place called Brite-lite.com they are a lighting place in Calgary. They also do mail order, I got a Workhorse 5 balast and 2- 55watt (6400K) power compact flor. bulbs for $90.00 cdn. You have to put it together your-self but I can walk you through it.

The bulb are PLL 55W

Thanks alot! that site looks pretty good and i think i might have to order from them. I looked at home depot and they didwnt have anything powerful enough that was cheap. I am trying to get some good lights for a planted tank. I will let you know how i do.

How powerful are you looking for? You can easily put 2 ballasts with 2 bulbs each on that tank for 160 watts, almost 2 watts per gallon.

I currently have a dual 48" light strip on my 55 gallon. I am thinking about getting a 100 gallon (60"L x 18"deep). I've never seen 60" fluorescent bulbs before, so is my only option a dual 48" strip on the 60" tank, or is there something I haven't considered?

Heady, just go to Home Depot. They have ballasts of all sizes. They have ones 1-7 feet.(7 is the biggest I remember seeing) You can go there can get 2-3 ballasts with 2 bulbs in each.
