Water Change Snails at top of the tank?

I have about 40 baby mystery snails at the top of my tank, They seem to do this every night, but went right to the top after a water change tonight! Even the larger ones seem to be heading for the top.

I'm a bit concerned since I dosed pretty heavy with some micronutrients containing Fe (iron). I put a whole capful in the 10 gallon (which is still within the recomended about)

I will check this thread in the morning.

Was just reading your PM and saw this post :)

I'd back off on the iron supplements and see if that solves your beard algae problem. A lot of people see a correlation between excess iron and BA.

Do you know how much iron is in your tap water?

What temp is the water. The warmer the water, the less O2 it holds. They will go up top to get O2 from their siphons.

It's normal for them to go to the top after a water change. I see mine up there all the time trying to siphon food from the surface after a water change. I take that time to hand feed one that is close, after a while they will come to the top and beg for food when you are at the tank.

I dunno I did not see them siphoning food just sitting there inside their shells.
My Large Male snail loves fish food and blackworms. He discovered blackworms not too long ago!

I changed out 2 gallons of water last night because I was afraid it was from dosing.

I'm not sure how much I can cut back on adding FE as it is an ingrediant in my Kent's Freshwater Fertalizer the ony thing I am dosing into the tank.


Water temp is about 80 deg, I don't know why I bought a heater because my lights heat the tank enough lol, the tank has pretty much 0 surface agitation when topped off though, but it does have alot of plants.

I did notice the Large Male sticking up his breathing tube, it's really long like 4 inches!

Too much iron is a bad thing, I use root tabs for my plants but I'm not sure that will work for you.

Plants also need nutrients from the water column.

Is he/she using RO water or something? I have never needed to add anything but root fertilizer and I have tons of plant growth in a very low light tank.
