I am getting a 40 gallon breeder tank for ten bucks :p:
I was wondering what I should do with it.
Some Ideas

- Piranas'

- One Oscar

- African Chiclids

Which would work best for the tank size?

Oh and posibly shell dwelling chiclids, but I never see them at any of my LFS.

Any other Ideas?

Well, before you guys bash him, I'll just clear this up for him; that he means one of those ideas, not all those fish in one tank. I know most of you will probaly know that but just incase :)

-Piranhas-No, because they will eventually need an a lot bigger tank
-Oscar-Same as Piranhas

Now, for african cichlids; I can see that working. It all depends on which ones you pick. As long as they are not over 5", I can see you getting 4-6. If you get some cool Apistos (Dwarf cichlids) you can probably get away with 6-8 of different species! Good luck!

You can also definately do a Kribensis "Breeding Ground" .. Kribs are awesome! With the Kribs, you can also get some top area fish so they aren't hurt when the Kribs are breeding and defending their territories.

Also; (learn from my experience), Kribs+Corys=No No No!

I dont want bettas, i already have two community tanks (55 gallon 30 gallon)
Maybe the kribs i like there color but i am looking for something a little different. I was thinking chiclids from lake Malawi, those are very colorful and I have had expierence with them plus my water fits there needs. But if I went with them I would need quite a fewof them and they are expensive.

Don't take my first post TOO seriously, as I only have limited info about African Cichlids. The only cichlids I've ever kept were Apistos and Kribs. You have more experience than me so go with your judgement ;)

The piranhas and oscars would be a bad idea, but a 40 BR would be a great tank for shell-dwellers. Lots of surface area for a good sized colony. You could also go for other africans I would think, but I don't have experience with those personally.

You can keep multiple male betta's in a tank that big and they won't fight.

Ok the whole betta thing was a joke (including what I just said). That is a lot of water for one betta.

Kribs are cool. I've got a 55 setup with rocks and caves everywhere and there's so much going on in there at times it's like a circus. Kribs don't need the depth so the 40 would be great for them.
