I want to pick up a mild to medium agresive cichlid for my 90 gal that can live with tank mates. Im thinking about an Oscar cause I had one years ago I loved but they seem very inbread lately but Im considering one. What would you get and recomend?

Never mind I got an oscar anyway

i have 3 ciclids, a jack dempsy , green terror, and convict. they are all nice fish and very territorial, the jack dempsy might be too aggresive to mix with other fish. hes the bully of my tank.

i just got a oscar and a jack dempsey
you can see pics in my thread about blue and captin rubberfins.

one thing ill say is my JD seems to be more social with me than the oscar although i think the oscar may be retarded cause he just kinda floats around and eats he doesnt seem to have a personality yet but the JD sure makes up for it. they are both cute as hell but the JD gets the fav point on this one so far. but one thing about cichlids is they all are diffrent.

if i had to choose one id go with a pair of JDs

but hey a jd and an oscar in a 90 would probably work out great.

if you do happen to get a JD they will eliminate any snail population you may have had

I think an oscar might be a touch on the big side for a 90. I kinda like Severums. They are not very big or aggressive. They dont look special. If you want a nice looking fish, I'd go with a dempsey or a firemouth.

My water is to hard and Ph to high for discus IMO I would only get them if I had a well.

Usually pH doesnt matter...what is your pH after it has aged/aerated for 24 hours?? As long as its in the 8.2 range or lower, you can keep discus easily. Hardness doesnt matter either....only reason why you would need a low water hardness is if you are trying to breed them.
