Hi All!

I am new to the saltwater tanks, I have had freshwater in the past, but I thought that I would give the saltwater tank a try.

Anyways, I had a clown fish, a brittle star, 2 snails, an anemone, a niger trigger, and a tesselata eel, after a couple of weeks my trigger died, took a water sample in to have it tested and the nitrate level was just a little above normal. I treated the tank and traded in the adult clown fish for a smaller clown fish thinking that maybe the clown had something to do with it. I also added a yellow tang to take the space of the trigger. All was well for a couple of weeks.

Last week my husband goes to Petco and buys 2 yellow belly blue damsels. On Sunday of this week I noticed that my clownfish, who swam constantly and always stayed just above the live rock, had moved down to the front side corner, on Monday I realized that he was not eating at all and on Tuesday I found him dead. I again went in and had my water levels checked and the nitrate level was again just above normal. I again treated the tank and all was well.

Yesterday, I noticed that my yellow tang is scrapping up against things and actually laid on his side and scratched it against the rock. This morning I noticed a scrap on his side, it looks like all the yellow is gone in that spot, I am wondering if the damsels could be nipping/feeding on my tang.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

how did you "treat" the tank? the damsels might have harrassed the clown to death, but have you been putting your fish in quaratine? you need to give a little more information like the size of your tank, exactly how long it has been set up, how did you cycle the tank, exactly what did you have your water tested for and what the readings were, how do you aclimate, all these things can be a factor in fish dieing in an aquarium. what kind of equiptment are you running. give all the information you can to help get quicker help.
