Hi All!
I am new to the saltwater tanks, I have had freshwater in the past, but I thought that I would give the saltwater tank a try.
Anyways, I had a clown fish, a brittle star, 2 snails, an anemone, a niger trigger, and a tesselata eel, after a couple of weeks my trigger died, took a water sample in to have it tested and the nitrate level was just a little above normal. I treated the tank and traded in the adult clown fish for a smaller clown fish thinking that maybe the clown had something to do with it. I also added a yellow tang to take the space of the trigger. All was well for a couple of weeks.
Last week my husband goes to Petco and buys 2 yellow belly blue damsels. On Sunday of this week I noticed that my clownfish, who swam constantly and always stayed just above the live rock, had moved down to the front side corner, on Monday I realized that he was not eating at all and on Tuesday I found him dead. I again went in and had my water levels checked and the nitrate level was again just above normal. I again treated the tank and all was well.
Yesterday, I noticed that my yellow tang is scrapping up against things and actually laid on his side and scratched it against the rock. This morning I noticed a scrap on his side, it looks like all the yellow is gone in that spot, I am wondering if the damsels could be nipping/feeding on my tang.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
