I am looking into buying a 100 gal acrylic and am having a really hard time finding suitable light sources. What I would really like is some kind of mountable light strip that I can install in a hood, or something similar. However I am having a seriously hard time finding fixtures that long. The *only* place I have been able to find any aquarium lights that are 5 feet long is at BigAls, but they don't have fixtures for bulbs that long.

Do any of you have funky aquarium lengths like mine, and if so, what do you do to make sure your tank is properly lighted?

I have a three foot aquarium, which makes it just 5/8" too short to put in a 36" shop light. I put in 24" lights, which are much cheaper and readily available and filled in the sides with compact flourescents. You could do the same by going with 48" lights and filling in the empty spots with some sort of compact flourescent.

HTH :)

You could try using a 24" strip light and a 36" strip light placed next to each other. Both of these sizes are readily available.

That would work even better and would really lend itself to various lighting combinations.
