Hey guys, i was just wondering if any of you guys could tell me what would happen if the feather duster part of a feather duster worm came off?! Im hoping this doesnt mean that it is dead!!! :sad:

this same exact thing happened to me this week. I checked my water parameters and they are perfect, so I dont know what happened. I was kind of wondering about an answer to this as well. Anyone know?
They will do that when stressed, like when first moved into a tank. It can grow a new crown, but is takes a lot of energy, and it may come back smaller than before.

my feather dust has shed his crown twice in the 2 years that ive had him. one of the guys at my lfs (who is very very knowledgeable and trustworthy) said that its nothing to be afraid about they will do that from time to time. my feather duster grew its crown back to about the full size it was in about a month or so. so dont be too concerned, these things happen. hth

Mine did that. He suddenly disappeared and left was an empty tube for a couple weeks then suddenly two day ago a new smaller crown popped out.
