Just set up a 9 gallon saltwater with plenty of live rock. Plan to put a black angler with the white toenails in there in a couple weeks after the cycle. Put in 4 blue leg hermits today to start it off. I heard that the anglers like to go with polyps and mushrooms is this true? Can I put anything else in there? Corals or livestock? Or will the angler just eat other fish and such? Really good lighting, 56 watts. Any suggestions would be great.

9 gallons is far too small for a black angler. And it'll eat everything that moves in your tank smaller than itself. Their predatory nature through use of a little mouth appendage as "bait" is why they're called "angler" fish.

I understand they get big! They get the size of a softball. The one I am getting is very small less than an inch and is eating fine, very healthy, been watching him for weeks. Can they go with polyps and mushrooms???

I saw one at the lfs that was the size of a small basketball! (6"-8")
I wanted to get one but heard that they'll eat everything that moves

Hremits are fine for that size tank. I don't know if they will get eaten.
