Helo fellow fish folk. I am looking at getting a new 29 gal tank and was interested in marinelands eclipse 3 system. I am already a fan of the marineland products. especially the bio wheel and bio-spira. Does anyone have experience with these hoods or advice for me? thanks.

The filters in the hood have always quit on mine. Then I'm stuck with figuring out how to put another filter in there with the hood it's got. :mad2: You can't put any HOB on it with the setup it has. I guess you could use an internal filter.
I'd get a different tank, and get a Penguin HOB with the biowheels.

I've had an Eclipse on my 25 Tall for about 5 years and have not had any problems with it at all!
I love mine and wish they made that setup for larger tanks like a 55 Gallon.
I recommend it Highly! Just make sure that you periodically clean the pump to remove all the gunk buildup and keep the impeller working correctly!

We have two of these systems... one on a 29 gallon tank and one on a 37 gallon tank. We like them and they work well. We clean the filter every few months. However, I have only had experience with fish for just over a year and do realize that if something goes out, you are very limited on what you can do with the hood. I do like that it seals completely around so no fish can escape 
I got an Eclipse 3 hood/tank for Christmas. So only 3 months of experience with it. Not on my favorites list. Quiet and good looking. Limited options for adding anything like HOB or connections for cannister. Don't like how the power head for it hangs and if it is as short lived as most people say it is, it will get some major cutting/modification for other filtration. The blue filter clogged up so very fast (definitely not overfeeding) it went straight to bypass, so I took it out. Also, one of the lights never stays on unless the front hood is open. Changed the light tubes but nothing helped including adjustment of the metal clips for the tube prongs.

The Eclipse 3 is pretty good. I have two 37 gallon tanks setup at my gf's house both using eclipse 3 perfectly fine. Im actually going to sell one of them because im upgrading the hood for stronger lighting to support the plants. If you're interested, I can sell it cheap. Email me at alexh_818@yahoo.com
