I was on the Ehiem site looking at some of the filters to learn a little mor about canisters. What is the difference between pump output and filter circulation?

I think it has to do with the head or how far the water has to be pumped to the tank. Could be totally wrong, but it is an interesting subject. Oh so sorry, (bang, bang head on desk).

not seeing the numbers I'd guess pump output is theoretical (without media or even hoses), where as filter circulation is a more real world number (with media, standard length hoses and normal head).

who knows

Gumby is very, very close. Pump output is a standard measure used by manufacturers with the pump intake submerged and bubble-free, the filter chamber totally empty, and delivery at zero head pressure. In terms of actual usage delivery volumes, it means little or nothing. Re-circulation should be a real-world measure with media in place.
