ARAPAIMA GIGAS is the largest fresh water fish in the world and can grow to 14 to 15 feet. You need a swimming pool to keep the fish comfortable. Giga is in the endangered species list and I believe it is ilegal to sell in U.S. Check this out

I have seen a related ARPAIMA species in one U.S store selling for three hundred for a 6 inch fish. But why would any one wants to keep such a giant fish.

Well, I have sufficient space to have an arapaima gigas, I have a 500 gallons thank, I think that is a beautiful fish that in a aquarium like that can be happy by a long time (3 years). I want to have plants in my tank because I want tha my tank show better.

What are you going to do with it once it outgrows the tank? It will easily need a 900 gallon tank by the end of its life, and, if you cannot provide that, it is not ethical to have such a rare species in such cramped conditions. I would suggest that you make friends at a public aquarium so that your fish will have a new home by the time it outgrows your 500g.

You should not have been able to obtain that fish, and should be warned that your supplier almost certainly got it illegally.

You have to remember that some things in mexico that are illegal here are not illegal there. True he shouldn't have that fish unless he's got a pretty **** big tank. 500 gallons isn't even close to being big enough. The tank at the vancouver aquarium for the gigas has 3 or 4 in it and it's about 50,000 gallons.

Good point, cdawson...I completely forgot about the legality/illegality differences between the U.S. and our Southern neighbors.
