i have a 120g perfecto and need some lighting advice. I plan on having corals later but for now just fowlr. I currently run 2 40 watt 48" flrc one coralife marineglow and one powerglo. Im really tryn to kick my live rock in high gear and i am about to biuld a canopy are there any diy lighting plans im pretty handy with wiring

If it were my tank, I'd use two 250 watt metal halides, probably with some kind of actinic supplementation (PC, VHO, or T5). The 250 watt lights will be plenty for a 2 ft deep tank, and you'll want one lamp per 2 ft of length. I prefer electronic ballasts because they produce less heat, are more energy efficient and will drive more kinds of lamps. My halides are about 10" from the surfaces of the tanks, with reflectors like these, I have the top of the canopy almost totally open to allow heat to escape.

A couple of 4" fans help too.

A lot of people are switching to completely T5 systems, which are apparently good enough for any coral or clam you might want. Can't say much about that though, I have only used T5s as supplemental lighting.
