Hello,
I just have a small 23g reef tank. I'm new to the hobby and are just starting to learn about everything. I saw an interesting thing "bloom" out of my rock. Not sure what it is, or if it's good or bad. I got a picture, it's not the greatest but hopefully someone can tell me what it is. It is those whispy arms in the middle of the picture. they are not always out.

Maybe cucumber feeding appendages. Do they retract one at a time?

Here's a photo of one of mine:

That really looks like it. I haven't seen them retract so I don't know.

What type of growth is it? Is it bad, will it grow, move...etc.

The animal in my photo is called a hidden sea cucumber. The rest of it looks like a small sausage, and they usually stay put in a hole. Occasionally one will wander to another spot. They are filter feeders, using the tentacles to snag bits of plankton and debris.

Certainly not bad, just another bit of biodiversity.
