Can anyone suggest something that I can put in with my red devil. I have had him for three years now. He is between 8-10 inches long. I have tried oscars but he brutalized them pretty bad. I was thinking maybe a jaguar cichlid with him. He is in a 75 gallon by himself now. I also wanted to see if anyone could suggest a scavenger to put in with him.

I don't think that he will accept any tankmates in his 75g, and I don't think that he is of a disposition to accept any tankmates period.

I think your right. I was hoping to find something for him because I hate just having one fish in a tank. Getting rid of him is out of the question because my wife and I are kind of attached to him.

RDs are cool but anything besides spongebob and his buddies(in plastic) is likley to become lunch.

I know the feeling because I have been thinking about the same thing for my future Dovii set-up, but, luckily for the both of us, our (in my case, theoretical) fish are very interesting on their own and make great pets.

yea the RD will pretty much kill anything that is not as big and aggressive so probably just about nothing can go in the tank without being killed.

hey I have a female thats 12 inch maybe we can go take them for a walk in the park. I have been trying to teach her to sit for 5years and play nice with other fish but she just will not listen.

Hey Tinman, I am starting to think making them play nice is a lost cause.

in a 75 probably not even a pleco for very long. I had a large dominant male reign over a female midas, a buttikoferi, and a carpinte in a 220gallon, eventually he and his mate were the only fish in the tank which eventually led to him being traded away for some nics

maybe if a put a muzzle on her like a pitbull she will not attack when not commanded to. I don't know what to call her because she is not hetero or homosexual she just doesn't like nothing or no one not even me. But I'm thinking about investing in a 375g and adding my 10inch male dovii and see how she likes that. That would be a awesome mixe breed of fry but to bad it will never happen!!

Mine is the same way. He hates everything and everyone. Last year I picked up a female from my lfs and it looked like they would get along. I put her in with him and they were cool all day. I went to school that night, came home 3 hours later and there was barely enough of her to be able to tell she was a red devil.

I was thinking of putting a RD in a 125 by himself since I hear they don't "play nice"

Now does that go for bottom dwellers too?? (i.e.. no plecos or catfish??)

1 fish in a 6 foot tank seems a waste, but if that's the best thing to avoid trouble, I'll do it.

usually you can get away with a pleco (but not always) just make sure you give it a place to hide once in a while.

I've tried plecos twice with no luck. They had a large cave to hide in. They used it to hide but the rd would wait and ambush them when they came out. I took them out and put them in other tanks. The only luck I have had is when my wife accidentally put a clown loach in with him. She bought me a clown loach and put it in the wrong tank. They were in the same tank for two days before I noticed and the loach had no damage done to it.

i would say if u wanna put a pleco in there he should be bigger than the RD, a lot bigger
