I would say probably not. Ropefish (also called Reedfish) are actually a brackish water fish and do best in brackish water. Dempsey's can't tolerate brackish so the two are best left seperate. Anyway hope this helps and good luck!

i havent heard of them being brackish, where did you hear that if you dont mind me asking? most likely a JD would kill it unless they grew up together and the JD was never fed live and was always kept full.

after just looking at a couple sites, it looks like they may be found in brackish, but are in general a freshwater fish, so that is how they should be kept, fw.

Ropefish will do fine in FW, i actually have never heard of them being kept in brackish.

As for keeping it with a JD, i don't know, never kept a JD before

Erpetoichthys calabaricus, aka ropefish, are not brackish fish at all. A jack dempsey would end up dissembling the ropefish before long...it would be a poor risk.

Its related to a bichir, and can be kept in FW.

Keeping it with a JD might work, depending on the fishes and tank size.
