That little oscar of mine is so adorable. Today when I fed him pellets i guess he understands my two fingers around a pellet is food, and now he jumps out and bites me! Arg. It is adorable :P
Also: How often do you feed your fish live foods? and NOT feeders. I give my oscar some home grown earthworms and mealworms about every 5 days...and he seems to love them, enough to tear them apart right before they hit the water.
Just wondering :) I might try crickets next...he's only 6 inches now....and was 2 inches in december.

One thing which you should understand (besides the fact that I don't understand feeding livefoods all that well) is that you need to have a very secure hood if your fish jumps to receive food, as it may already have associated jumping with food!!!

A little guy like that I'd feed once a day. Twice if you can keep the water good, but with an oscar that's pretty tough. As far as other live foods are concerned, you could shoot for some live brine shrimp. Black worms too, if you know they're from a safe source, which are pretty hard to find. You can feed him crickets, but I've found they have a hard time digesting the large hind legs, so I'd recommend killing the cricket and yanking the legs off.

I would feed a 6 inch JUVENILE Oscar at least twice a day and if possible 3 times a day. Remember weekly water changes. You can still feed oscars at that size and age jusst about everything you put in the tank. JUVENILES SHOULD BE FEED MORE THAN ONCE A DAY FOR PROPER GROWTH AND HEALTH ADULTS ARE ANOTHER STORY.

every week?

Heh. I haven't really been "water changing" my 100 every week..though people tell me to..and I don't. YET, my oscar is extremly healthy, active, so are the other fish. When I had a 12 inch oscar, a jag cichlid ( 8 inch ) and 2 giant catfish in my 300 or so aquarium ( about 6 years ago ) I changed the water once a month, to once every other month ( lazy, i was 10 ), and they grew up huge. Uhm
Maybe I should look into the water changing. XD I add water to replace evap, which is starting to evap ALOT....
heheh
