View Full Version : Will these nitrites ever go away?

I first wrote to you guys on the 7th. I still have nitrites at around 6 ppm, and they've been there for 5 freakin' days! I don't remember my FW tanks ever tanking this long (maybe it's just the excitement). Spring breaks coming! I want to get my LR next Thursday! Does it take long in SW or what? Maybe this is just a rant, but it feels good when you guys console me...real friends! J/K:rolleyes:

Is it safe to assume that you now have no detectable ammonia? If so, then go aheads and get your liverock as it will help greatly with that nitrite... What are your plans for the nitrate? DSB?

If you are buying the LR locally, try to get some cheap stuff to start with, as the remaining ammonia and nitrite are going to kill off most anything attractive probably... Once you are ammo and nitrite free, then you can safely add some premium stuff..... Do so BEFORE adding your fish as the LR will cause an ammonia spike probably, due to the handling die off.. A good way to avoid this is to take a bucket with you, half full of your tank water... Have the LFS put the rock directly into the bucket for you.. No air = no die off =)

Welcome to the addiction ;)

I was actually planning to get 30 pounds from Gulf View or 46.5 pounds from JustPhish. That's why I wanted them down. Actually the nitrates are really starting to shoot up (40 ppm), but still the NO2 holds. I probably should've taken that shrimp out sooner. Think if it's not down soon, I can just water change my way out of it? Thanks.
