Mostly sponges but I also use some Ehfisubstrat in the Eheims.

I use sponges in my TopFin 30 and a Bio Wheel, of course, in my Penguin Bio Wheel 150.

I rinse i ntank water every now and then. When it gets really clogged a quick soak in boiling water removes a ton of debris.
