All of the Osphronemus Gouramis will massively outgrow a 125g, the smallest species growing to 20 inches and the "common" one topping out at 30".
But then the fairly small (3") colisa fasciatus is also sometimes called a Giant Gourami. Their the only "giants" I've ever seen in a fishstore. They're related to the dwarfs -- the "giant" is as opposed to the dwarfs.
I wouldn't keep the first kind under any circumstances, but if you're talking about the little guys, they shouldn't give you any trouble.

Giant gourami's grow extremely fast! I read somewhere that they reach reproductive maturation by 6 months!
Those things get frigin' HUGE! I'm in Vegas right now and they had some gargantuan gouramis at the Mandalay Bay shark reef. I swear the thing was pushing 3 feet long and about 1 foot tall. They were SO cool. I must own one someday.

That place is so cool! Did you see the size of the Bala Sharks near the beginning? Amazing. Not sure if they had the giant gouramis when I was there though.
