at one ofmy lfs there were these little black "eel" looking things swimming up and down the tank. there most have been 30 of them. they were really neat looking but i didnt know what they were. i looked all over this web page and many others but w/ no luck. i was wondering if any of you knew what they were and have any info on them. they are black and slim about 5inches long. thnx

probably ropefish. notorious for getting out of the tank. tight cover required.

does anyone have a picture of a rope fish if indeed that is what it is. thnx andruboz

well i found a pic of a rope fish but those are more brown and olive. The ones i saw are all black

They could be black kuhli loaches. They range from reddish brown to almost black and look a lot like eels
