Hey, folks, this fish was sold to me as a red empress peacock, but as it's grown it doesn't look even like peacock, I'm thinking a hybrid mbuna (it's around 4" now). It has a narrow body, developed a pale pink-orange background, with small orange spotting across body (not visible in photo, sorry), and a sort of orange reticulation and spots on dorsal& ventral fins, and tail. It still has the large eyes my other peacocks have, but otherwise, I dunno. It's quite "pretty" but I think I'm gonna have to make an oddball tank. The others are Taiwan Reefs (2 pr) and aulonocara nyassae (5--still watching for males to develop). I've been studying up on cichlids for months now but I still have a loooooong way to go. Thanks in advance for any help. :hi:

Scholar, thank you so much for looking!! And knowing the answer. As you know, it helps alot--now I can keep it with the peacocks instead of moving it with the brichardi and lone rusty. Solves ALL my problems. Thanks again!~renee

Thanks, stingray. Found this local dude who breeds brichardis; lfs had an entire tank of 1/2 inch fry. Too tiny for my tastes, but I picked out what I"m hoping are a M/F pair. You and LoveMyKribs got me started very well--aside from the ghost, I'm all about cichlids now!! Get good at one thing . . . .

Diana, after looking through a long list of peacocks, I'm thinking maybe it's a hybrid with mbuna, too. The coloration looks like a couple of the albino peacocks (also body shape somewhat), although it has large dark eyes. It's the shyest, most retiring fish in the group, and always defers to the single rusty (also 4 inches), who got all flustered and barred up when I put the other in the tank. Hmmmm, mystery fish. Shall continue close watch on it (as if I didn't do that with all of them!! Nose to the glass almost!) LOL
Thanks so much for all!.
