Anybody have any information on African lungfish (protopterus aethiopicus) or any other protopterus species? I can't seem to find very much on these wonderful animals. I own one and need to know how big he will grow (among other things). So far he is a good 24" inches long! He is a monster- but the coolest fish I have ever owned!
Thanks for your time!

Go to Mojo's forum, and see if you can get in touch with Machete. He has 2.
Some tips I can give you--they will get to be over 4 feet in length, 8 inches in diameter, and very heavy. A large tank, with either a secure cover or a 8-12 inch gap between water level and the top of the tank is needed to prevent them from going for a walk. Access to the surface is important, as they gulp air. They will eat anything and everything they can fit in their mouths, so tankmates aren't suggested. Daily cleaning, and good filtration is a must--these guys produce waste that puts most house cats to shame. Feeding them 2-3 times a week with quality protien and veggies is advised-I wouldn't use feeders, since the health issues pose a serious threat. Plan on having at least a 300-400 gallon tank for this guy alone.

Shaina, welcome aboard Aquaria Central...
I don't know a thing about African Lungfish, but they do sound unique! There's no way I'd have room to keep one of those!
