Hello all, I am close to setting up my 90 gal saltwater tank. I am interested however in populating it with native fish from local waters... (FLA KEYS) I want a few mangrove snapper, and if possible a permit or two. I have done many searches and came up empty handed. If anyone has any info whatsoever, please dont hesistate to let me know. I dont want any fancy fish, just to have a little piece of the Ocean I love so much in my house so I may see it every day at all times.

The main problem with those species is that they reach up to 3 feet in length. Even a single fish half that size will not do well in a 90 gallon tank. There are species native to the Keys that would fit much better in a tank that size.

In the keys those mangrove snappers average 1-4 lbs so it may be OK in a 110. It would be great if you could get a queen trigger! Those permit can get huge so I would definitely stay away from those.

I know How big they get, lol just last night I landed a 25 lb one... But Im interested in a baby one... So I can learn a bit about its behavior, and such... Ill probably end up getting three mangrove teeny tiny, like maybe 2'' long, and a couple of small grouper. I am not sure yet. I was really interested in knowing where I may be able to buy live native fish like that... Any info would be appreciated.

Dear guys,

I am a totally novice on marine fish. Previous experience only fresh water and owned a 5ft tank.

Intend to purchase a 2 ft tank with normal overhead filter. Just want to keep a few clown fish and those blue type.

Read lots of posting and guide but still very unclear. Some experts say 2 ft won't do and some saied can. Can to give step by step set up to eventual putting in the fishes?

If there are alread threads on this subject, please lead me to it.

Thank you
