Oh that's real nice...

I'm sure he'd say the same thing about us humans...

All fish that have been messed with (crossbreeding, dieying, genitical alterations like "glofish", selective breeding is tolerable but not when it goes to the extremes) are uggly, this includes flower horns and blood parrots. I like to keep real fish, and that's why I'm against these kind's of fish.

I'd have a blood parrot if my tank would allow it. They're pretty cool. My girlfriend says they always look like they're smiling. :)

Though not for everyone, the above mentioned fish just ooooze personality!!
I love the look of a big male Midas/RD, hope mine gets like that when he's all grown up.
I think the blood parrots are unattractive as well, but many people I have talked to say they are cool and personable fish...

In my opinion, the ugliest cichlids are dyed parrots with cropped tails.

And flower horns with cropped tails. They call them "heart-shaped" here by the way, those frreakin *******s. :mad2:

Blood Parrots, period. Dyed, un-dyed, mutilated or not they are super ugly deformed hyrids.
I dislike hybrids period, but flowerhorns can be very beautiful.
Some FH afficiandos would say that that nuchal hump is way too big, others would pay major money for it...
I like cichlids with nuchals, but that is too much for my liking.

I like tiger oscars. lol :D They are nice. But I don't like the albino ones. They look like freaks (no offense to owners though, just a matter of personal preference), but wait.. aren't they? :dance2:

I guess my vote for "appearance challeged" (P/C) would be the Flowerhorn. Hybrids are just not my 'thing'. As to Oscars being 'ugly', (I detest that word) I believe they can hold their own w/ most F/W fish in the 'LOOKS' dept. Of course, this is a personal preference & I accept that others might feel differently. I would never describe 'O's as ---- that word!!

I dont think tiger oscars are ugly, I agree that albinos are. The standard red is OK, but I like the glow on the tigers.

Really gorgeous fish! I'd love to get an Oscar some day when I own my own place. For now I'm confined to the space of one room for my hobby. :( Someday, someday!

That oscar looked great, just not my favorite, I like the tigers better but Im partial since I had one forever. The personality of my oscar is far better than any of the other fish I've ever had.

My Red Tiger, 10-10.5"(SL) aprox 1.5yrs old.

That is probably the first Oscar that I liked. I normally would say that they are very ugly. I just don't like how they look, but Chilie, that is a nice one.

Two Oscars, but different species of Oscar.

Juvenile Tiger Oscar, Astronotus ocellatus
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/1252/juveniletigertp0.jpg

Adult Striped Oscar aka Black Oscar, Astronotus crassipinnis

2003 Did it look like that as a juvenile? Or did it color up with age?
Most juveniles start off significantly different from their mature colors/markings. Colors/markings vary quite a bit according to habitat, mood, activity and ect.

that is a great oscar chile - I can see why you are such a fan.
My oscars that i had when we talked on that other fish site were tigers too, but didnt quite have markings like that.

now I have a community tank with rainbows, and a pair of kribs, a pair of rainbow cichlids, a pair of gold nugget plecs, and a pair of striata loaches, with a few other fish thrown in/left over as I grew into this particular setup.

Oh and Oscars are nowhere near the ugliest fish! Flowerhorns can be absolutely gorgeous -from the side, that nuchal hump of theirs can get ridiculous though.
with out a doubt parrots are the ugliest abomination out there. just about balloon anything fish - mollies, flagfish, whatever. I've even seen balloon blue rams - now thats just disgusting
