Hi every body, I've got a 250g semi reef tank running alone for 2 months with the following equiment:

8' Sand bed sugar size
2 530g Internal filters
1 212g internal filter
1 530g Power head
2 300watt heaters
1 Sump with bio-balls, Activated Carbon, rubber coral and foam
2 Azoo 159g venturi skimmers
1 1059g return pump
2 Lightning units ( 2 90watt Actinic lamps and 2 90watt Azoo tri-power light on each).
250lbs of big pieces of live rock

And... well I think this is all now.

My problem is after 1 month the nuisance algee grew up very very fast... the presence of a strong brown coloration around all the tank include glass, rocks and sand bed was too frequently. I think the problem was related with the water and the light, at now the lightning units moves 12cm up of the tank. and the water changes are doing with purified water.

Now the tank have 4 months old the nuisance algee was eaten by 2 rock blennys and they do their work very well over glasses and rocks. And of course I put a phos-ban bags into the sumo to help them.

But the problem is the brown coloration still present into the tank but not over the rocks or glasses NO it still alive in the sand bed.

How I can do?

Of course I have now fishes and invertebrates.

My pets are:

2 Yellow tangs
1 Nasso surgeon
1 4 banded damsel
1 black and red clown
2 rock blennys
5 Loras
3 Labrid cleaners
3 Coral cat fish
10 turbo snails
2 stars
5 Condilactys anemones
2 carpet anemones
6 polyps rocks

and many more invertebrates and worms

Yesterday I lose my 4 banded damselfish, 3 Labrid, 2 Loras.... and 1 anemone What had happened? and the friday I lose my tomato clown fish.

The stress¿? the shock of the transportation or what?

I didnt know

So If anyone knows what I can do please tell me as soon as posible.

HELP !!!

But the main thing here is the water parameters are very good.

Ammonia 0mg/lt

Nitrite 0 to 0.03mg/lt

PH 8.3

Hardyness around 12k

Whats wrong?

HELP ME PlZ :help:

Thank you.

im not saying its whats wrong with the tank, but it is heavily stocked for only a 2 month old tank. i have been told carpet anemones need a well established tank, over a year. i dont know what kind of purified water you are using, but reverse osmosis water is the best. alot of purified water is only filtered for drinking, and doesnt remove most of the stuff you dont want in your tank. i would test your water again and check to see if any of the levels have risen. i dont see how a tank with that many fish in it in that short of a time could be fully cycled. but hey i have been wrong before!

Its a bit hard to understand, but did you add all the fish at once? You should not have anenomes in your tank yet, it is not established enough. I would wait at least 6 months for a tank to mature before adding an anenome. The brown algae (diatoms) is a natural phase new tanks go through, and over time it should disappear. If it doesn't go away within another month or so then I would say you may need to add a diatom filter to the tank, and look into other possible causes (phosphates?). You say the brown algae is just on the sand? Then invest in some blue legged hermits (you'd need AT LEAST 50 of them in a 250 gallon, but its reccommend 1 per gallon). They will groom the sandbed and get rid of some of that brown algae.

Also, you say your water parameters are good, but since you are testing a little bit of nitrite I would say that is not good. Nitrite is just as or even more toxic than ammonia. What are your nitrates?

You should be stocking the tank very slowly, and for a newer tank that is quite a number of fish.

Are your fish displaying any signs of disease, such as white dots or fuzz? Are they breathing heavy or is any particular fish being overly aggressive? How were your fish caught? (ie- were they caught using cyanide?).

Am I correct that you only have 400 watts of light on the tank? That will not be enough light for an anenome.
