I got a new tank and want to do with-fish cycling. My understanding is I need ammonia in the tank in order for the bacteria to growth. However, I am using AQUACLEAR 200 filter and part of the filteration system is the Ammo-rid pack to remove ammonia from the tank. Is this going to slow the grow of bacteria? Should I remove Ammo-rid in order for bacteria to grow? I currently use 2 tiger-barb to cycle the tank.
thanks for your advice.

You have the option of just not using the Amrid Ammonia Remover, if you think that it will render the ammonia unavailable to nitrifying bacteria. This isn;t true of all ammonia sequestering products.
Have you considered Bio-Spira? Check it out at www.marineland.com

I know that product - and yes it will slow the development of your biofilter. You can still do it using it, it will just take longer. If you are conscientous on water changes and monitoring - I would try removing it during the cycling process
And once cycling is done - you do not need to buy that product again as you really won't need to use it

Does this mean I have less of a need for a through cycling if I keep the Ammo-rid in there all the time since the ammonia will never shoot up? I can just slowly adding fish and take my time for the nitrifying bacteria to grow since the fish will not be exposed to too much harmful ammonia afterall.
