I have a 30 gallon tank that has been set up for 3 months now. All the water tests show nothing unusual. I'm not happy with the water. It's not sparkly clear yet. I was told it would be eventually if I waited it out and kept up the water changes. I was also told about a product called Filter-Aid. It supposedly makes the cartridge in my filter sticky allowing some of the particles clouding my water to stick to the filter where it can be rinsed off tommorow. I was told to only apply a few drops directly to the filter instead of treating the whole tank. I was told that making the filter extra sticky so more waste is trapped allowing me to rinse the waste from the cartridge getting it out of the tank would improve the water quality a little while I awaited the development of the bacteria to handle the task naturely. Is it okay to use this product as advised? Should I go for the full dose as the bottle says? Will it cause any harm to my fish?

I would stay away from the water clarifiers. Is your water milky white, or can you actually see tiny particles floating around in there? Also, what kind of filter are you running?..just curious.

I have used clarity by seachem with outstanding results. You also might want to try just adding more carbon to your filter or a bigger filter. If you have not built up your bacteria after three months, which seems funny, you might try bio-spira from marine labs or cycle.

Vortex It...

In the past, I have tried water clarifiers. They did not work for me. I had continuing slighlty cloudy water -- no matter what I tried; water changes, extra filter floss..
It was about that time when I stumbled in on this website and someone had a topic on Vortex Filters. I bought one, and use it ocassionally, and I never have that slightly cloudy water problem.
Look in the Forum of "Freshwater Products and DIY". I found an 'article' of diatom (Vortex) filters. Look for 'Diatom Filters - Explained'. It's a little on the long side for a topic, but try and read it through. I suggest you look into getting a Vortex filter.

I also need to say- Welcome to Aquaria Central! :)
