I may have been mis-guided at the pet store. I bought a Green spotted puffer for my 55g community tank, and the guy told me all I needed to do was add the right amount of aquarium salt, and ill be fine. He told me it was actually healthier for the other fish to have it in there as long as the chemistry was in spec... Well I have had my puffer for 7 months and everything is fine.... I have had a death but was due to violence with another fish... am I okay or should I change my fish water ect....

What else is in the tank?? I have heard that before. I had puffers for a while. They do much better with the aquarium salt. A little A.S. in the tank should be fine. A lot of times when fish get sick it is beneficial to use A.S. it will help the healing process. I am not recommending people just use A.S. if they have a tank problem without advice from a LFS but just repeating what I have been told by my LFS and also what I have experienced in the past.

I have, An African Ciclid, a Tiger Barb, Oscar, Red Belly Pacu, Clown Loach, Pleco, and a shark The only acts agressive fish in the tank is the tiger barb.

Wow hun, you have been misinformed indeed, 1) you really shouldn't add aquarium salt all the time, it really should only be used for ick, stress, things like that. 2) Puffer you have is actually one that will require full marine eventually, they start out in FW, then once they are a certain size need to be moved to a BW (brackish water) tank...which is a mix of marine salt NOT aquarium salt, then once they are bigger they need full marine, I am not sure of the size (age) that they require the switchs you need to look that up but it will not remain healthy in the FW tank.

here are a couple articles to start you out.

Also not to be mean or anything but the fish you have are not compatible and will not be able to stay in the 55 together, they may be alright now but they wont stay that way for much longer I wouldn't think

Good luck,
Gin
